Jason has been making electronic music under various monikers for over 20 years. His main project ( Vytear ) features music varying from abstract sound collage and DSP based sound design pieces to more beat based compositions. He also plays pedal laden guitar with cohort Glen Galloway in Octagrape. Currently Jason is composing using modular synthesis, processed field recordings, various tape recorders and custom Max/MSP patches of his own creation. Jason has also been working with drummer Nick Lesley on a Modular Synthesis meets live drumming project. All creative projects funnel into Jason’s composing of music and sound design for TVs at Singing Serpent.
My interest in music can be summed up to a basic love for sound. Perhaps like a painter loves color? They don’t have to be “notes” or be in any discernible pattern or rhythm, although I like those kinds of sounds as well. I imagine what sounds look like, or what color they are, imagining the kinetic movement that a particular sound evokes. Sounds manipulated into new sounds; elastic and stretchy or papery and dry - everywhere in-between. Sound can move around your head like a bee or sit in the back corner of a room statically droning. Sound can be anything - and for that, it has captured my imagination permanently.
